Data 23/10/2016

Venice focuses on ultra-broadband with Enel Open Fiber

Venice is embracing ultra-broadband connectivity through a strategic partnership with Enel Open Fiber, aiming to deliver high-speed internet across the entire municipality—including underserved areas—under Italy’s National Ultra-Broadband Plan (BUL).

🤝 A Public-Private Agreement for Future-Ready Connectivity

The Municipality of Venice has signed an agreement with Enel Open Fiber to build a new fiber optic infrastructure. The project will cover most of the city, ensuring fast and reliable internet access for:

- Residents
- Local businesses
- Public administration

🏘️ Full Coverage, Even in Market Failure Zones

Areas not yet served by Enel Open Fiber or other operators will be included in a dedicated rollout funded by:

- European structural funds
- National government resources
- BUL program allocations

The initiative is coordinated by Infratel, in collaboration with the Veneto Region, and targets so-called “market failure zones”—areas where private investment alone is insufficient.

🏗️ A Multi-Layered Plan for a Hyperconnected Venice

The project includes:

- Deployment of new fiber optic infrastructure
- Upgrades to existing public networks
- Integration of public and private investments
Within three years, Venice is set to become one of Italy’s most digitally advanced cities.
